Company Director Hugh Viney launched Minerva Tutors in 2014.
Former Head Boy and Top Academic Scholar at Stowe School, Hugh read Classics at UCL and began tutoring soon after graduating. Frustrated by his own experiences of the industry, Hugh founded Minerva in 2014 to improve standards and professionalism for parents and tutors alike. He did this by adopting a tutoring philosophy that values motivation and confidence above academic attainment; offering tutors the chance to learn, develop and have the unwavering support of a company as its direct employees; driving up quality through proper training and development programs; and developing technology to keep tutors accountable and offer a customer experience more aligned with other forward-thinking industries.
Hugh still tutors as much as he can (via Skype when available) believing it vital for him to set an example to his tutor team. He also runs Minerva’s monthly tutor breakfast meetings, where tutors share tips and learn from the experiences of others.
Two years later, in 2016, Hugh’s efforts in both the education sector and in entrepreneurship were recognised nationally as he received a nomination for the Duke of York New Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the National Business Awards, whilst simultaneously leading Minerva Tutors onto the shortlist of Best Tutoring Company at the Education Investor Awards, the most prestigious education awards organisation in the UK.
The winners of both awards are announced in November.
Hugh is an expert in education and entrepreneurship and is available to hire as an events speaker, panelist or judge.
